Desk Ramblings…..(20)

Here at Anglers Rest, things have been quiet on the blogging and working front and extremely busy on the domestic front.

As I mentioned in my last Desk Ramblings we were expecting visitors – my cousin and his wife from Australia. Their first visit to England. It was very exciting and I can not believe how quick their six week visit came and went.

We spent much time exploring, taking stock and looking at our bit of the world through the eyes of a tourist.

Like many of us, we do not visit or do things where we live. We simply take things for granted. We headed back to Surrey, to the parishes of my One-Place Study (Puttenham and Wanborough). Guildford, to the town where I was born, to the area where the family lived after they left Puttenham and Wanborough.

To stand at the very font where my Cousin’s father was christened. The same font that my Grandfather was christened at too.

For me, so soon after my Mum’s passing I found the whole experience lovely, happy and sad at the same time.

We then headed up to Northamptonshire, to the area when my Cousin’s Grandfather hailed from, before making our way to Inverness, passing through the Lake District, South West Scotland to see, albeit, briefly my husband’s mother.

On the journey back we stopped at St Andrews and visited the famous golf course, Ludlow and into Wales and then Stonehenge. Over the coming weeks I will share some photos and tales of our time away.

The Book of Me is still going strong with some developments for the coming months. I also have a few plans in mind for this blog.

On our 20th Wedding Annivesary

Whilst my family were here, Stuart and I celebrated our twentieth wedding anniversary. A lovely day and evening and whilst there was much laughter there was also a degree of sadness that my Mum was not here to share our special day.

Normal (ish) blogging will be resumed next week.
In the meantime, have a great summer and enjoy the sunshine!

  1. Congratulations on your 20th anniversary….I'm sure your Mum was watching down smiling at you both. Lovely to be able to spend time with the Aussie rellies and share your knowledge of family places with them. like Jill I've been enjoying the FB pics.

  2. Thanks Fran for stopping by. You are quite right there are often little gems to discover on your own doorstep. I am actually not a great fan of zoos. I have though been to London Zoo which disappointed me and the zoo in Sydney.

I also find that I do not check out the local tourist places or opportunities to do research locally. I've never visited Australia Zoo that is just down the road or our local genealogical society. I must make an effort as you never know what treasures you will find. Fran

  4. Thank you Jill. I will over the coming weeks share some snippets and photos.

Welcome home, it sounded like a great trip. I enjoyed travelling virtually with you via your FB posts.
