The photograph shows my late father in law, Derek Goucher 1926 – 2010, on his BSA motorcycle, when he was stationed at Blandford Camp in Dorset in June 1958. He bought the motorcycle for £250.00.
We know nothing about the motorcycle other than what has been mentioned here. Stuart wanted to try and either locate the bike or at least find out a bit about it and perhaps purchase a similiar model.
I posted the photograph to our site on Flickr and also to the BSA photo group and after a period of four years, someone posted that the model was a BSA C12G.

First of all a belated welcome to Sepia Saturday : sorry I missed your post from last week but I have tracked back and read it now. Our parents obviously shared a love of motorbikes for I have a whole collection of such shots featuring my mother and father. Looking forward to future Sepia Saturday posts.

1958 was the year when I started my National Service in the Army – Catterick in December was a rude awakening. I never got anywhere near a motorbike but admired the Signals Display Team from afar.
The Sergeant Major would have approved how you father-in-law wore his beret – cap badge above the eye.

My grandad always wore overalls and a beret around the house and garden at weekends.
